Heritage Special - Aali Masjid

Naira Yaqoob

This ancient and historic mosque was built by Sultan Ali Shah in the 14th century. Some believe it was constructed by the Shahmiri King, Sultan Hassan Shah in the 15th Century at Iddgah precinct. It got burnt down during Afghan rule (18th Century) and was rebuilt by the Afghan governor Abdullah Khan. It displays a lot of Kashmiri wooden architecture, lattice wood-work or pinjarakari.
